Provenance: From an old French collection, acquired from a French auction house. --- Condition: One claw of the right foot missing, otherwise except for some minor corrosion traces intact. --- Description: Bronze statuette of a crouching ibis, wearing on its head the Atef crown, identifying it as Thoth – as God of the moon, magic, wisdom and science. The long beak parted and slightly bent, the circular eyes possibly once had inlays of a different material. The legs bent with claws complete with worked out nails. The neck in s-shape merging into an elegantly curved body where the feathers are engraved in cold work.
