I remember laying on the coulee hills behind my childhood home.  I spent hours looking up at the sky counting the blues there.  I have always been fascinated with the sky and still find inspiration for my paintings there.

In this painting, I wanted to build up the clouds with texture.   Although clouds are ethereal and delicate, I wanted to juxtapose a tangible texture with them.  This challenge of these opposing ideas is a metaphor in this painting for the forces that pull at us.   Life and Death.   Freedom and Safety.   Joy and Sadness.  Air Bound and EarthBound.   A lot of my paintings are about those bigger questions.

I have prints of this painting also for sale on my website.
