I am fascinated by the strong roots and the monumental appearance of old trees. However, I was particularly inspired by the intertwined shapes of the Ficus Macrophylla. Several trees of this type are located in a small park in the heart of the city of Valencia (Spain).

There I made some sketches in the shade of the majestic trees, on the basis of which I created this series of ink drawings. I developed a complex network of thin lines to show the shape of the roots. But also the idea of the flowing vitality inside the tree flows into the design.

Light and shadow. Black and white.The mighty root of a graceful tree seeks its way into the earth. In my eyes, roots are a symbol for strength, the subconscious and the cycle of life.
