An old and graceful tree that grows on the sandstone. It is located in
the Affensteine area, which is a popular hiking destination in the Elbe
Sandstone Mountains. The rock formation, that creates a kind of natural
rock bridge, is called Kleines Prebischtor. I associate wonderful
memories of long hikes with this place.
This monochrome drawing
is dedicated to majestic trees, their strong roots and the peaceful
ambience in the middle of the forest.
I particularly like to
graphically depict the organic forms of roots and branches. Creating a
complex network of delicate black ink lines, I try to focus on the
visible and pure forms of the tree. But the idea of flowing vitality
inside the tree is also part of the design.
Long hikes through
the forest and to remote places are my source of inspiration. When I
spend my time in nature, I often have my sketchbook with me to make
quick sketches on the spot. They serve as a guide for me before I start
to draw a specific tree or landscape in detail.
In my eyes, trees and their strong roots stand for vitality, persistence and the cycle of life.
